MTN Ghana Organises AI Training For Media Practitioners And CSOs As Part Of 30 Years Anniversary

MTN Ghana, as part of their 30 anniversary organised a practical Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme for media practitioners and civil society organisations (CSOs), intended at equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence to use AI effectively and responsibly in their work.

The training took place on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the MTN House, Ridge, Accra.

The AI training for media and CSOs brought together experts who introduced participants to a range of AI tools and demonstrated how they could be applied to everyday professional tasks.

The gathering focused on the benefits and limitations of AI, responsible use of the technology, and practical ways participants could integrate AI into their work. Participants also undertook a practical exercise to apply what they had learnt, with the broader objective of helping users move from “AI curiosity to AI confidence.”

In a welcome address, Acting Senior Manager, Corporate Communications at MTN Ghana, Efua Falconer, assured that the training would provide participants with useful knowledge and hands-on experience in understanding how AI is changing the workplace. “I’m very, very confident that at the end of this session, you would have beautiful outcomes, and you would have a lot of knowledge, practical knowledge, and experience in how AI is affecting the way we do our work,” she said.

Miss Falconer also encouraged participants, particularly those from older generations, to embrace emerging technologies and remain informed about developments in the digital space. “Most of us in this room are Gen X, and very soon we would transform into older generations. So it’s very important that, at this point in our lives, we embrace the technologies that are changing and be abreast with what is happening around us,” she said. She added that MTN had brought together experts in the AI space to help media and civil society stakeholders better understand the technology and its impact.

Facilitators for the training include Samuel Adranyi, CEO and Founder of Afrilogic Solutions, Kwame Manu, Senior Manager, Digital Analytics and Monetization, and Nehemiah Yelu Attigah, CEO of HatuaTech.

They took participants through practical applications of AI, including how the technology can support research, analysis, content development and other professional activities.

A major lesson from the training was the importance of verification for safety and responsible AI use, particularly for journalists and other information professionals. The training stressed that information produced by AI must be checked against credible sources before it is relied upon or published.

The training also highlighted privacy and data protection as critical considerations when using AI tools. The programme was aimed at building participants’ confidence in using AI, and also to promote informed, ethical and safe adoption of the technology as it increasingly becomes part of professional and everyday life.

In today’s fast-changing digital world, credibility is currency, as AI reshapes the way information is created, shared and consumed, the role of journalists and civil society organisations in safeguarding truth and public trust has never been more important.

In an era of increasing misinformation, evolving audience expectations, and constrained resources, digital tools can help media professionals work more efficiently, verify information more effectively, and amplify voices often underrepresented in public discourse.
