800km EU Velocity Tour 2026 For Sustainability, Unity And Healthy Ends At Netherlands Embassy In Accra

Ride With Team Europe from Tamale ends  in Accra

The 2026 #RideWithTeamEurope cycling tour, a remarkable 800-kilometre journey from Tamale to Accra, has successfully concluded at the Netherlands Embassy in Accra on Saturday.

The tour, which celebrates 50 years of the European Union’s presence in Ghana, brought together six EU Ambassadors, diplomats, cyclists, media and team members in a symbolic ride promoting sustainability, unity, and healthy living, the Gladiators cycling club was well represented.

The EU Ambassador to Ghana, Ag Netherlands Ambassador and Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) gave impressive speeches and addresses to motivate the participants and encourage others to come on board next time.

“We have reached the finish line. For the past seven days, we’ve been travelling from Tamale to Accra.” said the EU Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach as he reflected on the cycling experience.

HE Wendy van Meel, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana and Acting Ambassador for special initiatives, such as the #RideWithTeamEurope campaign said the Dutch have a cycling culture as they often ride to school, market and work, hoping that more Ghanaians will ride.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority, reaffirmed the NSA’s commitment to supporting cycling in Ghana, highlighting efforts to grow the sport through stronger structures, partnerships, and events like the 800km Tamale–Accra #RideWithTeamEurope Cycling tour.

The Secretary General of the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), Mr. Shaaban Mohammed lauded the EU Velocity Cycling Tour for Sustainability, describing it as a groundbreaking and transformative seven-day cycling expedition spanning from Tamale to Accra. The tour drew admiration for its scale, purpose, and impact.

Mr. Charles Hansen-Quao, President of Gladiators Cycling Club, said the 800km Tamale–Accra #RideWithTeamEurope Cycling Relay was a challenging journey but they are proud to have completed to support sustainability and environmental awareness.

The cycling team planted trees and met traditional and political leaders during the tour which started on April 12 at Tamale to end in Accra on April 18. Participants were presented with certificates and medals.
