Sports Writers Of Ghana Association (SWAG) Boxer of the year 2025, Mathias Ashitey of the Black Panthers Boxing Club was adjudged best boxer at the Individual Amateur Championship organized by the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF).
He beat Caleb Mensah of Wisdom Boxing Club in the final of the competition which attracted a large patronage including guests from China, France and Spain.
13 bouts were held and out of the 26 boxers who displayed in the ring, Ashitey stole the show with his superb and fantastic boxing. His footwork, punches, jabs, dodging, head movement and intelligence on the canvas was too much and exciting to watch.

He gave boxing fans much to cheer about and it was not surprising that he was picked as one of the best boxers on the night. He was presented with a gift voucher from Twellium Ghana Ltd worth 5,000ghc.
However for many boxing fans, his style is far advanced as compared to others.

Two other boxers who did very well were Ebenezer Ankrah also from the Black Panthers Gym and smallish Daniel Amoo from the Sea View Gym.
The 2026 Ghana Boxing Federation Individual Championship has been commended by boxing fans and President Dauda Fuseni has been hailed together with his board for their splendid organization.

In another development, Vice President of the GBF, Nii Gonti Adjor 1 aka Nii Adama Addy, Chief of Atukpai, a boxing community and CEO of Omashi Media has been congratulated for his singular effort in making sure things were done at the right time to ensure a successful programme.
In an exclusive chat with the Vice President after the event, he congratulated the winners and advised them not to go home and sleep, but keep on training hard for major international assignments ahead.

He was however not happy with the behaviour of some fans and warned that in future some of them would be arrested and they will face the law, because they can not get free entertainment and at the end of the day spoil chairs and break glasses.
“I just want my people to behave maturely and as gentlemen and ladies whenever they come to watch boxing, we have learnt our lessons and next time the security will be tighter, while the fans will pay to watch good boxing” he expressed.
