Emilio Garcia, the 20-year-old is from Laredo, Texas, has hopes to be the first athlete from Laredo to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics in any sport.
Garcia, representing Team USA in the weight class of 63.5 kg, won gold at the 2023 Gee Bee International Tournament and bronze at the 2023 Strandja International Tournament.
His dream is to win gold at the World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand.
Against Ghana’s Joseph Commey he had it really tough, and won on unanimous points decision.

Samuel Takyi also lost to an American at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games to take Bronze.
