{"id":4596,"date":"2022-08-24T21:16:31","date_gmt":"2022-08-24T21:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/?p=4596"},"modified":"2022-08-24T21:16:33","modified_gmt":"2022-08-24T21:16:33","slug":"usain-bolt-moves-to-trademark-signature-victory-pose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/24\/usain-bolt-moves-to-trademark-signature-victory-pose\/","title":{"rendered":"Usain Bolt moves to trademark signature victory pose"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"420\" src=\"https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4597\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt.jpg 780w, https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt-768x414.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Athletics icon Usain Bolt has moved to trademark a logo showing his signature victory celebration pose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The retired Jamaican sprinter submitted an application in the US last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is known globally for the move \u2013 in which he leans back and gestures to the sky \u2013 as he routinely struck the pose after winning gold medals and setting world records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Bolt still holds the world records for the 100m and 200m, making him the fastest man in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the US Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Bolt filed his application for the trademark on 17 August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It depicts \u201cThe silhouette of a man in a distinctive pose, with one arm bent and pointing to the head, and the other arm raised and pointing upward\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He intends to use the image on items including clothing, jewelry, and shoes, as well as restaurants and sports bars, and the filing shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cGiven that Bolt is now retired from racing, it makes sense that he would look to expand his business empire,\u201d Josh Gerben, a Washington DC-based trademark lawyer, told the BBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe silhouette of his victory pose is recognized around the world. This trademark registration would enable him to offer the items listed in the application himself, or license the right to use the trademark to third parties,\u201d Mr. Gerben said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr. Bolt applied to register a similar trademark 12 years ago, but this has since lapsed under US law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eight-time Olympic gold medallist retired from athletics at the 2017 World Championships in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"770\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4598\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt-1.jpg 770w, https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ultimatesportsghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Bolt-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He could only manage bronze in his penultimate race \u2013 the men\u2019s 100m \u2013 before pulling up injured just as he began to hit top speed at his final event, the 4x100m relay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When asked if he would consider a return to racing, he replied: \u201cI\u2019ve seen too many people retire and come back just to make it worse or to shame themselves.
