Ghana’ Gabriel Owusu Wins Three Silver Medals At African Weightlifting Championship in Mauritius

Despite many challenges in travelling and late arrival in Mauritius for the African Weightlifting Championship, Team Ghana performed well to grab three medals.

Gabriel Owusu also earned some international points in put him high in the international rankings.

The shining star for Team Ghana, had only one day to prepare due to some technical challenges but managed to achieve the feat.

However, Gabriel Owusu, the Prison Officer and captain of the weightlifting federation won three silver medals for Team Ghana at the Weightlifting Africa Championship in Mauritius.

Mr. Yaw Ampofo, Director General of the National Sports Authority said “Forget about the gold medal. Sometimes it’s not about the colour of the medal or the final position.

It’s usually simple and easy when you are well motivated and have a big budget to do almost everything as an athlete, a coach, a team or federation”.

“It’s complicated and very  challenging when you have nothing but still find a way to leave a mark, build and achieve. Character & Attitude” he added.

He expressed that lessons to be learnt from the Mauritius saga.

He noted that athletes must come first but the rule book must not be thrown away. Congratulations on winning three silver medals.

He thanked Mr. Michael Nii Yarboi Annan for the intervention and sponsorship of the team.

According to the Director General there are challenges but the conversation must not end here.
