Nakousi David and Tuolong Reina make history by winning first Tiza Marathon

The first edition of the Tizza Marathon took place over the weekend in the Jirapa municipality, the women did a 10 Km race, the race started near St. Francis of Assisi Senior High school and ended at the Tizza JHS Park. The men did a 21.1 Km race starting from Dapouri and finishing at the Tizza JHS Park.

Athletes from all over the country came to participate in the inaugural Tizza Marathon which was held at Tizza, most of the athletes were students from the various universities and some international athletes.

Tuolong Reina of High Morale was first in the 10km race in the time of 39:36.61, second position went to Asakiyaaba Joana also from High Morale Athletics Club, with a time of 40:11.42 and the third place went to Balbulweri Felicia a student of UDS in Tamale in a time of 40:36.11.

The men’s 21.1Km, winners were Nakousi David of High Morale Athletics Club, also a student from the University of Ghana,Legon, he did a time of 01:11.33.68, second place went to Kwarteng Emmanuel of Jackie Pramso Senior High School in the Ashanti Region with a time of 01:11.47.54 and the third position went to Seidu Abdul-Bashiru of UCC with a time of 01:12.55.98.

The race went on smoothly with no injuries or any incident. Athletes from all over Ghana came to participate in the inaugural Tizza Marathon. Most of the athletes were university students and one from Nigeria, who won the women 10Km,

The MCE of the area, Hon. Peter TO’ Ang, the municipal Police Commander ASP Bright Acquah, the National Sports Authority boss for Upper West, Mr Bilugio Johnbosco and Chiefs and elders of the community graced the occasion.

The Police Commander himself joining his men to ensure the safety of the athletes, this was the first time I saw a Police Commander controlling the flow of traffic with his men, for the safety of our athletes.

Organizer of the Tizza Marathon promised an exciting event in the second edition and also thanked the Tizza sports development committee and Coach Boniface for their efforts put in for this great and successful competition.
