The 2025 Annual General Meeting and Elections of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has been fixed for April 26. 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
As we entered the month of April, many candidates have showed up their head in readiness to contest to lead the Sports fraternity of Ghana, a nation blessed with massive sporting talent and natural resources which can generate financial support.
In the run up for the Elections, it was Richard Akpokavie former president of Ghana Hockey and former Secretary General of the GOC who indicated his ambition to become the president to avenge his defeat to incumbent Ben Nunoo Mensah, aka HRH Nii Kojo Ashiefie Papanyira 1, but the latter shocked everyone when he announced that he is not going for the third term, and wish others take up the mantle to lead Ghana sports as he has been called up for higher service in global sports and traditional roles.

So the other executive board positions were targeted by some Federation heads. with the Treasurer position to be hotly contested between Isaac Aboagye Duah of Ghana Tennis and Evans Yeboah of Ghana Badminton.

The first vice president position have been not yet seen anyone challenging Mawuko Afadzinu. president of Ghana Table Tennis, but Secretary General Shanoon Mohammed who is president of Ghana Cycling will face Kassim Mohammed Muniru of the Ghana Swimming while the second vice president is having Frederick Otu Lartey of Gna Taekwodo currently standing alone and the third vice president is between Mohammed Mahadi of Ghana Fencing and Ernest Danso of Ghana Baseball and Chef du mission for Team Ghana at the 2023 African Games.

Bawa Fuseini of Ghana Athletics is interested in the assistant secretary general position which is currently held by Jerry Ahmed Shaib of Ghana Weightlifting.
Michael Aggrey, former President of the Ghana Golf Association emerged with a surprise to declare his readiness for the presidency and his announcement shook the grounds.

Yours Truly has heard many people want to contest, but they are watching if the grounds are fertile or rough before filing at the last minute.
In the last Elections in 2021 there was the Green Team who swept all the positions against the Yellow team who are returning to revenge.
The Green team have revamped and made some tactical changes to scare the Yellow team.
At the time of writing this piece it is 15 days to go. I am very sure others will come out to contest and it is certainly going to be exciting, with shocks and surprises again.
We must expect to hear names sports politician like Charles Osei Asibey, Reverend Quarcoo, Chris Essilfie. Farida Iddris Joyce Mahama and Rafatu Inusa in the race. They cannot be left out after their vibrant debates at previous GOC congresses.
With a fortnight to go, let us expect to see other candidates coming up or whether some will pull out to support others.
However, all of them should know that it is service to Ghana First, how to build upon the existing positive legacies, especially sports infrastructure and motivate athletes to excel at the international platform.
We wish the delegates all the best and pray that they vote wisely. Good Luck and congratulations to all who have decided to serve Ghana Sports.
