Ghana was represented at the 13th ECOWAS Africa Wrestling tournament in Abuja, Nigeria, on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The tournament, which was part of ECOWAS’ 50th-anniversary celebration, brought together 11 countries from ECOWAS states.
Fuseini Issah (men’s 120kg), Emmanuel Lamtey (men’s 76kg), Joycelyn Asamah (women’s 76kg), and Emmanuel Osei-Sarfo (men’s 86kg) starred for Tea Ghana, and they did well as compared to the experience of other nations.

The team’s diligence and commitment paid off, as Fuseini Issah won a bronze medal and finished as the 2nd runner-up in the men’s 120kg category.
Mr. Norbert Amefu, President of the Ghana Wrestling Federation said the tournament served as a valuable preparatory ground for the upcoming continental tournament in Morocco. “I think the team is ready for the upcoming continental tournament in Morocco,” he stated. “This tournament was used to assess the team, and those who performed well will be selected for the African championship.”

The Ghanaian team’s outstanding display at the ECOWAS tournament underscores their exceptional talent and unwavering resolve. As they shift their focus to the continental tournament in Morocco, the team is well-positioned to leave an indelible mark on African wrestling.
