Ten vibrant Choral groups from various institutions and organisations participated in the delightful 39th Emmanuel Pappoe Thompson Choral Festival which came off at the Accra Arts Center on Tuesday.

The senior high schools that took part and sang elegantly were Accra Academy, Accra Girls SHS, Labone SHS and the University of Ghana as the only tertiary institution.

The industrial and institutional choirs who also performed marvelously were the Ghana Highway Authority aka ‘Asphalt Voices’, Ambulance Choir, Freeman Choir, Fire Service Choir and Freeman Singing Band.

The Ghana Prisons Band was in attendance performing ‘Yeara Asaa Sini’ at the beginning and ended with ‘Hallelujah Chorus’.

Also present to grace the programme with a performance on her special instrument was Assor, the Culture Ambassador.

Executive Secretary of the Commission of National Culture, Nana Owoahene Acheampong who was the special guest advised Ghanaians to practice and live their culture, which is the way of life, food, clothing, festivals and natural resources.
He quoted late president of Ghana Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who once said culture is the sum total of material and spirituality of the people.

Mr. Eric Ohene-Larbie, director of the Centre for National Culture in Accra popularly known as Arts Center also stressed that as the nation celebrates heritage moth, it is idea to honour a legend who was an educationist and great composer of the Ghana national anthem.

Some family members of the late legendary educationist and composer, an indigene of Accra shared some of his experiences which made him stayed a humble and quite life.

Mr. Samuel Thompson, son of the legend gave the closing remarks on the event as exciting and memorable, while others danced to some of the melodies.
