Ghana Cycling targets 2028 Olympic qualification

Mr. Shaaban Mohammed Secretary General of the Ghana Cycling Association believes Ghana can be represented in Cycling at the next Olympic Games in 2028 in the USA.

Speaking to Yours Truly in an exclusive interview at the Ghana Olympic Committee (G secretariat where he is Operations Manager. he said if the nation organises and plan well ahead from now, they can make it.

He disclosed advanced plans and support from an organisation in the US which is preparing to train Ghanaian cycling prospects .

According to Mohammed, Ghana must also try to bid for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and make useful the sporting facilities built for the 2023 African Games.

He expressed the vast advantages in hosting international games as Ghana reaped some positives for hosting the continent.

He noted that the Commonwealth Games is bigger, however it is possible if there is good organisation.

He also touched on expectations of the new sports minister. hoping he or she must be a sports person who had participated and experienced sports as well as possess leadership and managerial skills.

He was happy the NDC party won the elections and interactions with Prof. Joshua Alabi. the campaign manager of HE John Dramani Mahama is that they will listen and do what the people want.

He said 2024 was exciting and rewarding because the Cycling Association staged some important races like the Tour du Ghana and other competitions for the youth and students.

“Next year is going to be busy because we are starting our preparations for the Commonwealth and Olympic Games in 2026 and 2028 respectively” he said.

He appealed to the incoming government to pay attention to sports like Cycling which has many benefits.
