New WIBF Champion Abigail Quartey aims high

Ms Abigail Quartey who was crowned WIBF Super Bantamweight Champion in the early hours of November 25 after beating Sangeeta Birdi of the Umitef Kingdom says her new feat will inspire and motivate her to go further in her career as a boxer.

Speaking to Yours Truly on Omashi TV show. The Big Fight Night. she disclosed that at times she stops training for many months before coming back to the gym, due to lack of activity.

She thanked Coach Ebenezer Adjei aka Coach Killer for guiding her to glory and her current achievement which will motivate other female boxers in Ghana.

Abigail Quartey has no nickname, idol or favourite boxer and sees herself as her inspiration.

She appealed to the Sports authorities especially the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Women’s Commission, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) to recognise her well and reward her accordingly to inspire other athletes especially female boxers.

Now with a record of 10 bouts, 9 wins and one defeat. Her only lose in UAE came one week before she annexed the WIBF  belt. She believes the sky is bright for more success.

The first female professional boxer in Ghana, Naa Yarley Achia Bronie 1 popularly called Yarkor Annan aka ‘Yarkor Chavez’ was at the Omashi TV studio to bless her.

She advised her to be focused and obedient to her coaches as that is most important in the life of a boxer.

Boxing fans are watching because they feel let down by the government after all the achievements given to the nation. Boxing has given Ghana eleven world champions.
