The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana, with the support of the Commonwealth Games Association – Ghana, thus the (Ghana Olympic Committee, has secured a slot for the upcoming 2024 Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) GAPS training camp, which is taking place in Mauritius from November 4th to 13th, 2024. This training camp is open to Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) worldwide. It aims to provide developing para-athletic athletes and coaches with essential skills, knowledge, and opportunities to advance their training.
The camp will include technical training sessions, coach development workshops, and educational presentations on sports psychology. It also seeks to prepare participants for the next Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in Glasgow in 2026.
Participants representing NPC Ghana include Coach Ibrahim Suleman and Zinabu Issah PLY, who recently competed in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. One of the key objectives of the CGF GAPS training camp in Mauritius is to allow experienced para-athletes like Zinabu Issah to share their international experiences with new athletes attending the camp. Zinabu placed third out of twenty-three para-athletes in a tournament organised at Mauritius 2024 Training Camp.
The NPC Ghana is grateful for the effective collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee to develop para-athletes who can represent Ghana in future International Tournaments like the Commonwealth Games.
