Kenyan Bernard Cheriyout Sang Wins Well Attended 2024 KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon In Accra

This year’s 2024 KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon which took place on Saturday September 7 was well patronized and has been described as a great success by the organisers.

Mr. Ernest Buamah of the Millennium Marathon Company said “in terms numbers we had over 10,000 runners. The number of foreigner runners also increased as compared to previous years, because the KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon is a ranked race on the World Athletics calendar.

“We are very happy with the success story of the KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon and next year we plan to improve upon what we’ve done this and probably try to get Label Status on the world athletics calendar. This will imply that all stakeholders will uplift their commitments and make Ghana the hub for running events in Africa” he expressed.

Kenyan, Bernard Cheriyout Sang was the 2024 KGL Foundation Millennium Half Marathon Winner in the Male Category. He did a time of 1hr:04:42:14.

Joseph Kiprono placed second in 1hr:04:43:28 while Moses Bokien took the third position in 1hr:04:5:19.

In the Women’s category, Clementina Chelangt made a time of 1hr:13:22:27 to win while Cheptoeck Careen was second in 1hr:14:38 :92.

Ghana’s Sakat Juliana Lariba of the Armed Forces was third in a time of 1hr:16:12:40.

The event attracted a number of sponsoring companies, as it featured two main races: a 5-kilometre fun run and a more competitive 21-kilometre race

The 2024 KGL Foundation Millennium Marathon had participants from schools and other African countries like Togo, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, and Ethiopia.

The top 25 runner who finished were awarded prizes for their hard work and persistence.

Commemorative paraphernalia, including special custom-branded medals and wristbands, were distributed to runners and attendees alike, helping to make the event memorable

After the race, there were other fun activities for participants and spectators, including live music performances, food stalls, and interactive games.

The 2024 Millennium Marathon aligned with the KGL Foundation’s focus on health and sports.

The Foundation, title sponsor of the Millennium Marathon, used the event as a platform to emphasise their commitment to improving the well-being of Ghanaians.

This marathon showcases our belief that promoting health and sports is essential to uplifting our communities” said Mr. Nii Annorbah-Sarpei, Programmes Manager of the KGL Foundation, who presented the ultimate prize to the 21km winner on behalf of the CEO.

The Independence Square was as usual a vibrant atmosphere and KGL Foundation’s involvement underscores their commitment to creating an influence across Ghana through healthy creativities and sporting events.
