Ghana’s Theo Allotey to battle Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba in IBA Champions Night At Addis Ababa

Zambia’s celebrated boxer, Patrick ‘Baddo’ Chinyemba, fresh from the Paris Olympics, will trade leather with Ghana’s stubborn Theophilus ‘Lopez’ Allotey in an eight-round IBA Africa flyweight title fight on August 17 in Ethiopia’s capital city, Addis Ababa.

It’s the first time ever the increasingly popular IBA Champions Night series will take place on Africa’s soil during which some of Africa’s top boxers will be in action not for medals but for money because the IBA Champions Night contests are normally organised in a professional boxing format.

Chinyemba screams in delight after being declared winner as the first African boxer to win in the IBA Champions Night series – Dubai, October 2023

The potentially explosive Chinyemba vs Allotey fight will headline the highly anticipated card with Tanzania’s Commonwealth Games and Africa bronze medallist, Yusuf Changalawe meeting DR Congo’s Pita Kabeji for the third time with Kabeji winning the first two.

Chinyemba and Allotey will also be fighting in their third encounter. The Zambian, who’s the reigning African Games champion, leads 2-0 having first beaten the Ghanaian in last year’s World Championships in Uzbekistan and in the African Games this year in Accra.

African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) President, Eyassu Wossen Berhanu is definitely walking on a cake for this milestone, hosting the colourful event at his backyard with distinguished personalities in attendance.
