Star girl of Ghana table tennis, Juanita Borteye has defeated her Ugandan opponent Patra Nasirumbi 4-2 (5-11, 11-8, 14-12, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4) in the quarter-finals to book a place in the medal zone in the girls’ singles under 15 category at the on-going ITTF African Youth Championships in Gaborone, Botswana.
Under the watchful eyes of Coach Cynthia Kwabi, Juanita Borteye defeated Karolina Shigwedha of Namibia 3-0 (11-1, 11-2, 11-2) and Rethabile Motsamai of Botswana 3-0 (11-3, 11-2, 11-2) in the group stages, drew a bye in the round of 32 and defeated Tina Andriantahina of Madagasca 4-0 (11-7, 11-3, 11-5, 12-10) in the round of 16.
In the semi-finals, Juanita Borteye will face Khadeeja Elhakim of Egypt for a place in the finals.
Juanita Borteye was full of praise for her performance having recovered from an injury she picked up earlier during the African Hopes Competition.
The Ghana Table Tennis Association under the leadership of Mawuko Afadzinu is on the right path to restoring the successes of old.
