Soccer For Dreamers Partner GFA To Donate Kits To Football Clubs

Soccer For Dreamers in partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Friday, July 12 donated football and menstrual kits to some clubs at the Ghana Football Association secretariat in Ridge, Accra

The benefitiaries were Agenda FC – Shai Hills, Fiakonya FC- Somanya, Abonya, Young Believers – Dodowa and D-shooters FC – Odumse all male clubs.

The female teams all from Greater Accra who got the menstrual kits were Teshie Constant Ladies, G.R.A   Ladies, Halifax Queens, Immigration Ladies and Sissamba Ladies.

Asanteman FC, a male disability football club which comprise national team stars also had their share.

There were lectures on the intergrity of the game of football by Mr. Obed Tuffuor of the GFA Foundation and how to use the menstural cup which was distributed to the girls by Mrs. Sylvia Akwaboah, President of Soccer For Dreamers.

She said this year is the third in succession since the initiative began in 2022, and the beneficiaries are five women’s team from the Greater Accra Region, four male teams from the Eastern Region and one disability team from Kumasi.

Mrs Sylvia Akwaboah, said the initiative was to ensure that their programme spreads its wings to support as many teams as possible.

Also, the inclusion of the disability team was indicative of its all-inclusive objective. She explained as the rationale for selecting the beneficiary teams, the President of Soccer For Dreamers,

“The objective of this initiative is to support all players everywhere irrespective of their where they are. For the first time, we had a disability team benefitting because we have been following the exploits in disability football and we are excited to provide our widow’s mite to support them,” Mrs Akwaboah said.

Since its inception, the partnership has educated female footballers on menstrual hygiene and, at every event, distributed menstrual cups to support and help the players.

Nike branded water bottles, Redbulls T-shirts, Redbulls Leipzig jerseys and jackets donated by New York Redbulls Academy were given to every player. “Soccer For Dreamers is an inclusive organisation. We started by making sure women’s football was not left out, then combating menstrual poverty. We gave to skate soccer players last year, so when we realised there was a need with the amputee football team, it was a no brainer. We wanted to help where we could and we are happy we have been able to do just that” said Mrs. Akwaboah

The players and their coaches commended and congratulated Soccer For Dreamers for their presents.

It is an initiative by three brothers – Baruch, Jed and Kayden Akwaboah- who play school Soccer in the USA.

It is their way of supporting young footballers in Ghana who are dreaming of making something meaningful out of the sport.
