The Black Bombers including Joseph Commey who replaced Samuel Takyi will leave Ghana on May 20, 2024 for the final qualifier towards Paris 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Team Ghana will be represented by six men and one woman (US based middleweight 75Kg) Ornella Sathoud.
According to Communications Director of Ghana Boxing Federation Mr. Joojo Ephson, they are determined and well prepared to participation in the 2nd World Olympic Qualification event in Bangkok, Thailand from May 22-June 2, 2024 and qualify for slots for Paris 2024.
The revivified Ghana squad include African Games Bronze Medalist Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey, who will fight in the 51kg; 2022 Commonwealth Games and African Games Gold medallist Joseph Commey (63.5kg), and Jonathan Tetteh (light-heavyweight category).
UK-based boxer Mark Kodjovi Ahondjo, who failed to compete in the first world qualification tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy will be there, as well as African Games gold medallist Amadu Mohammed (featherweight) and Henry Malm or UK-based Haruna Rex Coffie.
In the event of any unforeseen circumstances, popular fighter Abubakar Kamoko stands ready to step in as a reserve for Jonathan Tetteh. African Games Gold Medalist Mohammed Aryeetey is also a reserve for Theo Allotey. Commey was the reserve for Olympic Bronze medalist Samuel Takyi who decided to pull out of the team at the last minute.

The GBA has been supported by the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
“We’ve already paid for their accommodation and feeding which was $20,000 which we’ve sent to the Thai Boxing Federation. What is outstanding now is our letters for visa on arrival…so I reached out to the IOC (International Olympic Committee) so that as early as possible they can send the visas on arrival letters to the boxers so that the team can leave Accra on May 20” said Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the GOC.
