…Ignatius Elletey Dances To Receive Flagship Award
The Transport Committee of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 13th ‘African Games has on Sunday evening organized an awards night at the Games Village, Legon to honour distinguished and outstanding drivers and volunteers.
Mr. Samson Deen, Chairman of the Transport Committee hailed everyone who contributed in diverse ways to see to the successful end of the Games which attracted over 5000 athletes, coaches and officials from 53 countries from February 25 when they began active service shuttling between 10 venues in Accra and Cape Coast..
Mr. Deen who is President of the African and Ghana Paralympic Committee said the awards is to show appreciation and motivate the winners to work harder
“Am happy to stand before and congratulate you for the wonderful results you have chalked. If what we saw at the stadium and closing ceremony is real then Ghana has done very well. I am happy and proud. You did it all” he said.
According to him a promise was made to award outstanding volunteers, so there is no promises and fail.
“There were difficulties and challenges but we are Ghanaians and you did well to serve and save the 13th African Games. It is a party for the drivers and volunteers, we didn’t know each other but now we are a family” he stressed.
Mr. Ignatius Elletey, a member of the Transport Committee was adjudged the most distinguished personality. He danced his way to collect his plaque and was applauded by the volunteers.
Certificates of participation were issued to over 450 volunteers and drivers who served the Transport Committee. The best three drivers and volunteers were honoured with medals, as done at the sports center, field, court or pitch.
Group volunteers were stationed at various venues like Airport who were first, Borteyman Sports Complex, Accra Sports Stadium, Trust Sports Arena, Accra International Conference Center (AICC), Alisa Hotel, Theodocia Okoh Hockey Stadium, Achimota Cricket Oval, La Boma Beach, Olebu and the Games Village, Legon.
Fans favoutite, Kamal was voted best driver, taking home a gold medal while other winners took the silver and bronze.
Mr. Kwesi Mantey, head of the Catering Committee commended the drivers and volunteers expressing how important they are and the opportunity they had to serve the nation and international guests.
He shared some experiences of various sports events hosted in Ghana which he was in charge of the food and pointed out Accommodation, Transport, Catering as the most important tasks to be resolved in massive tournament organization and management.
Present at the ceremony were members of the Transport Committee. aka Transport Management Operation (TMO) team who managed over three hundred and thirty-two (332) fleets of vehicles accessible at the service of participants of the Games.
