Ghana drop six places in FIFA World Rankings

FIFA has released the latest rankings for February 2024 which has Ghana dropping to 67th place.

The recent dismal performances of the Black Stars have affected the ranking of the former four times Champions of the African Cup.

The fall in the world ranking also affected the Black Stars position on the CAF rankings, as they fell from 11th to 14th. The new sit for Ghana on the CAF rankings lifts countries like DR Congo, Cape Verde, and South Africa above them.

The rankings took effect following the recent Africa Cup of Nations, which was staged in Côte d’Ivoire. Ghana performed abysmal at the AFCON, with the team failing to record a victory in their three group stage matches played against Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

African Cup Champions, Côte d’Ivoire moved up to 39th position in the world and 5th on the CAF rankings, while the second-place team at the 2023 AFCON, Nigeria, finished 28th in the world and 3rd in Africa.

Top countries like Morocco and Senegal maintained their top spots in the rankings, as they finished first and second, respectively, on the CAF rankings and 12th and 17th on the FIFA rankings.
