The Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II has congratulated, commended and consecrated new LBO Intercontinental Featherweight Champion, Stanley Nyantekyi and his team last Sunday when they paid a special courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
He urged the Ashanti born boxer to be disciplined and train harder for the bigger titles to put the name of Ashanti high in Boxing, encouraging other young sports men and women to be focused and aim high.
The adorable king who will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of his reign this year advised the youth to use their time and energies to fruitful endeavors.
Coach Lawrence Carl Lokko and Mr. Gordon Frimpong who guided Nyantekyi aka the ‘Ashanti Warrior’ to his current status expressed excitement and inspiring to meet the Asantehene.
They promised to change the face of Boxing in the Ashanti and other regions in Ghana.
Lokko, founder of the Bronx Boxing Gym, a member of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) board who is now Vice President of the United Coach Association appealed to organisations and individuals to invest in Boxing as it is the sport that the nation relies on for achievement in international honours.
Mr. Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Promotions thanked the Asantehene for granting the team the audience and promised to take Nyantekyi to the world ranks, while looking out for other budding talents.
Accompanying the delegation was Boxing Commentator, Sam Nana Gold, winner of BoxinGhana Writer of the Year 2023 and some members of the Ghana Boxing Supporters Union and Bronx Boxing Gym technical staff.
Stanley Nyantekyi defeated Togolese Komlangan Hounkpatin via KO to win the LBO belt. He is the next popular Ashanti born boxer after Kofi Jantuah.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sammy Anim Addo, CEO of Bronx Promotions has hailed the visit to the Ashanti Region as it is an effort to expand their Boxing operations.
