Coach J.E. Sarpong, a fearless and outspoken football tactician believes Ghana is no longer feared on the African continent in football.
Speaking on GTV Sports programme Match Day to discuss the 34th African Cup Of Nations taking place in Cote d’Ivoire, he noted that Ghana is now used as a measurement by other nations to determine their standard and level in the game.
He said Ghana is not a powerhouse now like Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Cameroun, Nigeria, Cote dIvoire, Zambia, South Africa, Mali, Tanzania, Comoros and others.
He was surprised that Ghana, four time winners of the African Cup could not beat Namibia at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
According to the Accra Academy coach who has handled various clubs and national teams in Ghana, the chances of the Black Stars are very slim, unless a miracle will take Ghana to the finals, let alone win the cup.
He observed that many Ghanaians have lost interest in the Black Stars and do not bother or cheer up as compared to the past.
Ghana last won the African cup in 1982 under late Chairman J.J. Rawlings, after the third in 1978 under the late General Kutu Acheampong. The first two victories of the Black Stars were in 1963 and 1965 under the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, first president.
