The National male and female boxers teams are expected to leave Accra for Dakar-Senegal on Wednesday, 6th September, 2023 for the Africa Olympic Boxing Qualifiers which starts on 9th to 15th September, 2023.
Ghana will be represented in 12 out of the 13 mandatory weight categories for the championship, where only 18 boxers are expected to battle are battle for a slot to Paris 2024 Olympic Games from the various weight categories( Flyweight to Super Heavyweight) for the men and Women (Flyweight to Middleweight) as decided by the International Olympic Committee( IOC) Boxing Taskforce.
There will be two (2) other qualifying platforms in Italy and Thailand in March and May,2024 for additional qualifying slots to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The Black Bombers won Ghana’s sole medal & Africa’s only medal in boxing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games through young dynamic 20 years old Featherweight, Samuel Takyi who broke the 29 years medal drought by Ghana at the biggest Sports Festival in the world.
The current team has boys who are also ready to make name for themselves and their families and country.
Some favorites and hopes for qualification are all of them, but trust the experienced and youthful powers punchers from Ghana to prove again.
The squad has been boasted with the inclusion of Seth Gyamfi aka Freezy Macbones, who is causing sensation in British rings.
Friends of Boxing (FOB) and the Boxing Writers Association of Ghana (BWAG) wish them victory and success.
