Emerging from the famed boxing enclave of the world :Bukom, Gbese specifically, Daniel Quaye began his sporting journey as a football player and was affectionately called ” C. Ro ( Cristiano Ronaldo ) owing to his sublime artistry on the dusty soccer pitches of Accra.
The immensely gifted youngster now aged 21, maintained his romance with both the “Sweet Science” and the “Beautiful Game” until he finally switched from the pitch to the ring in 2020, making his debut a year later on a Box Office Promotions card at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The bout, on December 24, 2021 , saw Daniel Quaye engage in an enthralling slugfest against namesake Derrick Quaye. In the end, amidst resounding applause from the fans present, the bout was adjudged a draw.
Quaye proceeded to notch two impressive victories before being offered a three year management deal by Kurrency Boxing Management owned by business magnate Bright Aboagye who operates Goldmart: a precious minerals trading firm.
Manager, Mr Bright Aboagye recounted how he spotted Quaye in a training session and observed his courage, determination and skill level.
He intimated that he believes the lad has something special the world ought to witness and is motivated to provide that helping hand to help the boxer’s dream materialize.
The Lightweight prospect who currently trains at the famed Bronx Boxing Gym in Accra under Coach Lawrence Carl Lokko has seen marked amelioration in his repertoire, composure and general outlook. Carl Lokko who also nurtured former IBF champion Richard Commey to world championship level and also credible champions like Sheriff Quaye and John Abaja Laryea, is certain of Quaye’s ability to achieve similar feat.
Quaye nicknamed ” High Tension” , idolizes African boxing legend Ike “Bazooka” Quartey and closely follows the exploits of American superstar Gervonta Davis.
The task for Daniel would be herculean but never unsurmountable.
