Bofoakwa Tano CEO reflects on challenging but rewarding season as club secures GPL promotion

Alexander Ababio, the Chief Executive Officer of Bofoakwa Tano, has expressed his thoughts on the recently concluded season, which proved to be challenging yet ultimately rewarding as the club secured promotion to Ghana’s top-flight league for the first time in 16 years.

Bofoakwa Tano’s qualification marks a significant milestone for the club, which endured relegation during the 2006/2007 campaign.

The Sunyani-based team sealed their promotion by prevailing 7-6 on penalties against Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium, earning the final ticket to the top flight for the upcoming season.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Alexander Ababio expressed his excitement and satisfaction at guiding the team back to the prestigious top division of Ghanaian football.

“It was an exciting day for us after securing qualification to Ghana’s top-flight league,” Ababio remarked, visibly pleased with the achievement.

“We have experienced the pain of relegation for the past 16 years, and it has not been an easy feeling. It was a very difficult journey, particularly with the division of the zones into Zone One A and Zone One B.”

Ababio acknowledged the unique challenges faced by the team due to the revised zonal structure.

“Playing against the same team four times in the zone was not economically attractive,” he explained. “Additionally, Zone B consisted of several teams with prior Premier League experience, making it an even more arduous task. However, we managed to navigate our way through.”
