Four Ghanaian players who are Razak Abalora, Patrick Kpozo, Edmund Addo and Khalid Abdul Basit won the 2021/22 Moldovan Cup with Sheriff Tiraspol to complete the double.
Sheriff Tiraspol won the trophy after beating FC Sfintul Gheorghe 1-0 in the final at the Suruceni Stadium on Saturday evening, courtesy a late goal scored by Regi Lushkja.
Razak Abalora and Patrick Kpozo were handed starting roles in the final and lasted the entire duration, while Edmund Addo and Khalid Abdul Basit didn’t make the match day squad.
The cup triumph was the 2nd trophy the team has won this season. Sheriff Tiraspol won the Moldovan league title in April, the 20th time in the team’s history.
By winning the league trophy, Sheriff Tiraspol will have the chance to play in the qualifying round of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League.
The Moldovan champions played in the 2021/22 Champions League and shocked the world after beating Real Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu. However, they were unable to qualify to the knockout round after finishing 3rd in Group D behind the Spanish giants and Inter Milan.
Sheriff Tiraspol dropped to the Europa League but were knocked out after losing to Sporting Braga.
