The Special 2023 Invitational Inter-Schools and Colleges athletics competition currently going on at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi was opened by the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Evans Opoku Bobie (MP).
The event is being organized through collective efforts of National Sports Authority, Ghana, Ghana Education Service and Ghana Athletics Association towards building of a National Youth Athletics Team to represent the nation at various international competitions.
Present at the opening ceremony were the Director General of NSA, Prof Peter Twumasi, NSA Ashanti Regional Director, Mr Emmanuel Kojo Appiah, CEO of Ghana Athletics Association, Mr Bawa Fuseini, NSA Acting PR Head, Ms Rita Odei, and GES Regional Sports Coordinator, Mr Okoto, who represented the DG/Ash. Reg Director of GES.
30 schools from various parts of the country have been invited to participate in the event.
Acording to Prof. Peter Twumasi, the NSA is working closely with GES to revive school sports after long break in second cycle institutions competitive sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Deputy Minister also used the visit to inspect the Baba Yara Stadium pitch which would be used for the CAF competition in June this year.
