GFDA HOLDS NATIONAL COACHES WORKSHOP AT NUNGUA

The Ghana Flying Disc Association-GFDA, over the weekend, hosted the National Coaches Training Workshop at the Nungua Town Park in Accra.

The event was aimed at enhancing the technical knowledge of the regional coaches in the disc sports games who will be tasked with the promotion of the game in their various regions. Six regional associations including the Gt. Accra Flying Disc Association, the Central Regional Flying Disc Association, Ashanti Regional Flying Disc Association, Oti Regional Flying Disc Association, Eastern Regional Flying Disc Association, Western Regional Flying Disc Association and the Northern Regional Flying Disc Association.

The workshop also witnessed the participation of quite a number of female coaches from Gt. Accra Region, the central region and the Eastern region.

The workshop which was facilitated by Volunteer coaches from the USA and Germany took participants through the rules of the game, practical drills and theoretical knowledge of various technical aspects of the game of Ultimate.

As part of the program, GFDA management took participants through various aspects and stages of the GFDA National Project 4 – a project aimed at establishing 4 disc sports clubs in all 16 regions of Ghana.

In an interaction with the regional Chairmen, the President of the GFDA hinted that the introduction of the game in Ghana has the potential to promote youth and girls’ development in diverse ways and as such regional heads must put in effort to ensure that the game reaches youth caucus within their various region. He also stated that the disc sports games has the potential to nurture elite athletes capable of winning laurels for themselves and mother Ghana and as such serious efforts must be attached to the project.

Mr., Mantey also noted that the organization needs more trained coaches to support the development of the game in other regions and efforts are in place to train a few coaches’ trainers to support the development of grassroots coaches.

Mr. Peter Asiedu, the Vice President of the GFDA also expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization to all facilitators for their support and effort.

In line with the organization’s objective to support the UN SDGs through disc sports, he urged all regional heads to intensify efforts to make the game available to the youth including girls in a bid to enhance their overall health and wellbeing whiles also creating platforms for them to excel in sports.

The Association,which received its provisional recognition from the National Sports Authority in January has expanded the size and scope of its developmental milestones in over 10 Regions of Ghana.
