MATCH:
Ghana playing in the quater finals against neighbours Ivory Coast having qualified from group D as group winners after edging past Guinea and Senegal both 1-0 wins.

Seeking to avenge their painful penalty shoot-out loss in the last edition’s final in 1992, Ghana again lost 2-1 despite having reigning Africa player of the year and UEFA Champions league winner in Abedi Pele and German bundesliga top scorer in Tony Yeboah to their ranks.

On the other side, the dangerous pair of Joel Tiehi and Abdoulaye Traore did the damage. Tiehi scored the opener in the 30th minute. C.K. Akonnor equalised with a thunderous strike from a freekick and Traore scored the winner in the 81st minute to put the Ivorians through to the semis.

Frank Amankwa and Abedi Pele made the ‘Team of the Tournament’ list from Ghana. Head coach Aggrey Fynn was fired upon his return to Ghana.
