In a distance of 36km over 3 laps in the Team Time Trial Men’s Elite category in the ongoing Africa Road Championships in Accra, Ghana, Team Algeria secured the Gold medal with beauty edging out crowd favorites Eritrea ( 45:15),to second spot with Rwanda (46:12),placing third.
The Algerians exhibited a great deal of road work and grit with quartet workaholic squad of Hamza Manzouri,Azzedine Lagab, Hamza Amari and Nasim Saidi clearing their finish line in style establishing a fine form time of 40:55 to grab Gold.
The Eritreans were not disappointed at all as they as they picked up the pieces to secure Silver to place second in 45,15. Led by last Edition’s Road winner Muluebrrhan Henok, the flamboyant “Red Sea Camels” glided the Ablekuma Ollebu stretch in anticipation but had to succumb to an impressive Algerian side who possessed every determination and grit.
Rwanda gave and impressive account of themselves with a respectable Bronze medal in third position. Nsengimana John Bosco, Mugisha Moise,Renus, and Tuyizere Etienne were a delight to watch in the Team Time Trial, clocking a time of 46,12 to complete their placement.
Countries like Angola, Mauritius and Burkina Faso came through in that order giving a positive outing in the first day of the Championships.
But without a doubt the Algerians have been superlative in this year’s Championships and their quest to amass more Gold is positive.
