It was a fight worth all the ballyhoo, the hullabaloo and the rumpus: a battle for the coveted National Super Featherweight Championship a Renault luxury ride and other goodies.
The build up was sweet and delectable, stakes were high, the ambience was electrified with frenetic gusto. Of course, it was the Grande Finale of the Deluxy Professional Boxing League beamed live on Max Tv and watched across the globe on Boxing Day.
The Bukom Boxing Arena was the venue, John “The Magic Man”Quaye and Charles Tetteh were the combatants. Both boxers spotted astounding ring entrances as their teeming fans cheered on.
Charles Tetteh began on an aggressive note and a blistering pace; landing stiff jabs, solid left hooks and hard rights to the face of Quaye who occasionally swang in with looping punches.
Tetteh was in firm control in the first two rounds but Quaye came back in the third and fourth with his own onslaught. But even in the rounds that John Quaye seemed to dominate he was rocked multiple times. At certain times “The Magic Man” was on the verge of being stopped. Only sheer grit, resilience and determination kept him in the fight.
In the end, the boxer from the Panix Boxing Gym: The Pride of Agbogbloshie, Charles Tetteh emerged victor via a clear unanimous verdict.
The arena was packed to the rafters with former World Champions Azumah Nelson and Joshua Clottey gracing the occasion among an array of dignitaries.
The two boxers having sold out a good fight, possess immense potential and spell a bright future for Ghana Boxing.
