Former Black Stars head coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor has revealed that Cody Gakpo snubbed a switch to play for Ghana before committing his international future to Netherland.
The 23-year-old attacker has been in a sensational form for both his club and country.
He has thirteen goals and fifteen assists in 24 games for Eridivisie side, PSV Eindhoven this season so far.
He scored the opener for Netherlands in their 2:0 victory over Senegal in the 2022 World Cup group stage today.
Commenting on the game between Senegal and Netherlands on GTV Sports+, C.K Akonnor said they tried to convince him to feature for Ghana but he rejected their advances.
“Yes, we tried to get him to play for Ghana but he ended up rejecting us for the Netherlands. This was about a year ago when he was at the junior level,” Akonnor said.
