An exciting and brilliant display of Judo skills outdoored the commemoration of this year’s Japan Ambassador Judo Championships at the Hathiramani Hall of the Accra sports stadium last Saturday.
The Championship, which featured Judokas in the Juniors and Seniors category produced some interesting results.
The boys’ under 18 category saw young enterprising Isaac Williams taking the first position with Emmanuel Sarpong and Abdul Rahman Nii Ofei Dodoo and Kwabena Twum Boafo placing second and third respectively.
The female Division established Esther Anane as the winner, Nhyira Twum Baah coming through the second spot with Felicia Koranteng placing third.
The elite division in the 60kg men, had Daniel Quansah as the winner with Jones Ofori Mintah placing second. Selorm Kwaku Amega put up an impressive outing to place third.
In his opening remarks, the special guest of honor, His Excellency, the Japanese Ambassador of Japan to Ghana, Hisanobu Mochizuki was highly elated at the event. He mentioned that the event, which was marred some three years ago due to the covid pandemic is back.
The Director General Technical of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Kwame Ampofi Jr. who stood in the stead for the Director General, was impressed with the organization and admonished the participants to be disciplined and focused on the choice of sport chosen and wished all participants all the best in the championship.
President of Ghana Judo, Mr. Emmanuel Tetteh expressed appreciation to the Embassy of Japan for their continuous support to the Judo Association. He recounted the efforts of the Association at various Olympics and Commonwealth Games appearances.
Deserving medals were awarded to the various winners.
The Japan Week celebrations was stagnated as a resulted of the covid pandemic three years ago and its comeback is significant for the cultural relations between Japan and Ghana.
