After a long absence of over three years of the much loved Japan week celebrations, the colourful event bounces back in stupendous style beginning the 12th of November,2022.
On November 12th, the 22nd Ambassador of Japan Cup Judo Tournament will roll off at the Accra Sports Stadium, Hathiramani Hall.
On the 13th of November,2022, the 3rd Ambassador’s cup Kendo Tournament will also be held at the same venue.
On the same day the 8th Ambassador Japan Karate Tournament will also receive massive audience at the Accra Sports Stadium Hathiramani Hall.
The week long festivities would be climaxed by the colourful 19th Ghana Yosakoi Festival which will be the main centre of attraction at the Police Fitness and Social Centre, Accra.
In addition to these packed programs, a Japan – Ghana high school student exchange (online) and a Japanese speech contest are scheduled to be held within this year.
The Ghana Yosakoi Festival,an annual Japanese cultural planner on the Japan calendar has come to stay and accepted by the Ghanaian populace until it was halted three years back due to the emergence of the global covid pandemic.
One great spectacle to behold in this year’s event would be the Kendo display which is an inmate characteristic of the Japan Sports culture.
The last edition was held in 2019 with debutants St. Dominic’s Senior High School emerging winners on the day.
Japan and Ghana have been bonded in diverse areas of mutual Economic and social relationship with the Japanese Government investing in mammoth dimensions to the Government of Ghana especially in the Northern part of the country.
The Yosakoi Festival is thus one of those social tentacles that seeks to bridge the social and Cultural friendship between the two countries.
Yosakoi is a unique style of dance that originated in Japan and that is performed at festivals and events all over. The first Yosakoi festival was held in 1954 in Kōchi,Japan on the Island of Shikoku.
