Representatives of Imax Media Group Promotions and officials of the Ghana Boxing Authority took time to visit and interact with various boxing gymnasiums within Accra.
Explaining the rationale behind the gesture, Mr. Ernest Arday, Head of Media at Imax Media said the visit was to fraternize at first hand with the boxers and coaches in the gyms since that would give them a fair idea of their working conditions and some of the areas where they might need assistance. He further stressed that his outfit, though comparatively a new entrant into boxing was poised to offer immense contribution and support to elevate boxing in Ghana in order to produce world beaters. He stated that they were ready to collaborate with major stakeholders to realize amelioration in the lives of individuals whose lives revolved around boxing and wouldn’t relent in that regard.
The coaches of the various gyms visited, which include : Attoh Quarshie, Will Power, Jamestown,Sea View, Discipline, Wisdom, Charles Quartey among others expressed profound gratitude to Imax and the GBA for coming up with the Deluxy Professional Boxing League. They said, its inception has enabled the emergence of numerous talents who were hitherto unheralded and unsung. The coaches also cited some of the challenges they were having to which officials hearkened and pledged to return with glad tidings. On his part Mr Abraham Kotei Neequaye, President of the Ghana Boxing Authority enjoined the various gyms and stakeholders to work together to ensure sustained development in the sport.
The entourage included Mr Abraham Kotei Neequaye, Mr Ernest Arday, Solomon Ofori Manu Acting General Secretary of the GBA, Percy Oblitei Commey of the GBA Technical Directorate and Sam Opoku Amoah ( Nana Gold) Member of the GBA media committee.
The team was quite satisfied with the level of infrastructure in some of the gyms but observed that the state of others left much to be desired.
