New President of the Armwrestling Federation thanks stakeholders contributing to the sport of choice in Africa

Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa (AFA) and president of Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF)  has commended all stakeholders and individuals who have helped in making the dream of developing African Armwrestling a reality.

The GAF president is the first Ghanaian to be elected as President of AFA and Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation.

Mr. Osei Asibey led Ghana to finish off successfully at the just ended Armwrestling African Championship in Nigeria, bagging 45 medals, 18 gold medals, 22 silver medals and five bronze medals.

He said he will work together with his able Board members to make Armwrestling a sport of choice in Africa.

The GAF president, speaking at a media briefing in Accra on Monday, said he was committed to the development of the sport, therefore creating awareness to make Armwrestling a household sport on the continent.

“We are committed to the development of the sport, we are committed to make sure that Armwrestling, traditional and popular, becomes a household sport and the sport of choice on the continent.”

He also pledged that the association would make sure measures are put in place to help develop and make armwrestlers better than before.  

“Everything we captured in our manifesto by the grace of God, with the help of the board and support from corporate institutions in Ghana and beyond, we would make Armwrestling a sport of choice on the continent,” he assured

Mr. Osei Asibey, throwing more light on his upcoming projects in the African Armwrestling Federation, said the association was going to witness massive transformation with his expertise, experience and the support of the board.

The gallant sports personality has helped in developing Armwrestling in Africa and the World at large having been elected president of AFA after beating his opponent by a margin of 72 per cent against 28 per cent.

Mr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum of Kofikrom Pharmacy fame who is Vice President of the GAF, was also elected the President of the West African Armwrestling Federation.

Meanwhile, the 12th edition of the Africa Armwrestling Championships which would be held next year in Ghana would be used as a qualification tournament for the 2023 All Africa Games.
