Anthony Boakye of the River Park Cycling Club in the Brong Ahafo outpaced 62 other cyclists in the 97.5km criterium to win the final lap of the 2022 National Tour Du Ghana event at Ablekuma Olebu in Accra.
The powerful and skillful cyclist established his supremacy in the tour as the best on the rankings to win a cash prize of GHS 5,000 plus products from Promasidor, producers of Cowbell products after winning the overall Best by Time and the Best by Points, collecting the yellow jersey and Green Jersey respectively.
The five day National Tour Du Ghana started from 7th July and ended 11th July, 2022 across five regions, namely Winneba in the Central Region, Suhum and Larteh ,both in the Eastern Region, Sogakope in the Volta Region the Greater Accra Region.
On day one, cyclists rode from Accra to Winneba, then directed to Suhum on the second day. The third day saw them going through the Larteh hills and back to Accra.
Day four was a 156km race to Sogakope, then to Ada before the final stage at Ablekuma Olebu.
Sponsors of the 2022 are Promasidor Ghana, producers of Cowbell products, BIC producers of BIC Pens and shavers, Riyard Constructions, dealers in housing projects, S-Sports and Liteblue events.
CEO of Spatarial Construction & Heritage, Mr. Kevin Solomon Oduro presented a cash prize of Gh2000 to organisers of the tour, and has promised to cater for the cyclists insurance in the next edition.
Mr. Israel Noryibey, marketing consultant at BIC commended the cyclists for their hard work and commitment to their sport.
The Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) will present five cyclists at the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games in the UK.
Communications Director of the GCF said the tour was a good event that has seen the readiness of the cyclists for international assignment.
