An inclusive bunch finish of 67 riders including Anthony Boakye in the second stage of the National Tour Du Ghana was enough for the Sunyani based rider to hand onto the leaders Jersey.
But stage winner on the day went to Togolese import Dedenu Laurent of Royal Cycling club in a time of 3:52:33 sharing the same time finish with yellow jersey holder Anthony Boakye of River Park Brong Ahafo.
The third position went to Fidel Tchalem also of Royal Cycling club with a time of 3:52:45.
It was an interesting stage race from Accra to Suhum and back to Accra in a distance of 132.6 km engulfing an average speed of 34.1 km/hr.
Boakye again is in the lead in the general classification by time in 7:29:25 followed by Sky Team young prodigy Nii Amar Quaye Joseph in second position in 7:29:31.
In the general classification by points Anthony Boakye again sits on top of the life sheet with 54 points followed by fellow “foe” Frank Akuffo Awuku from the Boss Tribe Cycling club.
Yesterday’s race was intense and very competitive as team mates struggled to gain composure on the rough terrains especially the Amasaman area.
Limited breakaways were witnessed but the interesting spectacle was how Anthony Boakye and Frank Akuffo relayed against each other inside the peloton.
The seconds currently existing between these two giants is just 6 seconds and that involves adequate policing of each other not to break away.
Victor Cudjoe of Gladiators Cycling club was very fantastic in stage two, breakaway a couple of times but couldn’t hang onto hope.
Today’s race begins from the Accra stadium to Adenta through Dodowa to Mamfe and returns through the same route.
The jersey is at stake and can Anthony Boakye maintain the leaders Jersey? Time will tell.
