Yaw Addo To Represent Ghana in Flyweight Division at 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham

After weeks of speculations on who represents Ghana in the Flyweight division in boxing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the dust has settled at it looks like Samuel Yaw Addo of Attoh Quarshie is the one going.

Samuel Addo who lost at the Individual Championship at the Bantamweight division has to reduce weight to fight as a Flyweight.

Speaking to some executives of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), they said it is too late to change, however they are hoping that Addo will go and prove that he can win a medal for Ghana.

The selected boxers are United States (US)-based Dr Ornella Sathoud who is the only female in the team, 2020 Olympian Shakul Samed (light heavyweight), 206 Olympian Abdul Wahid Omar (light-welterweight) and Jessie Lartey (light-middleweight) who won the bronze in Australia in 2018.

Others are Abubakar Quartey (middleweight), Alfred Kotey (welterweight), Joseph Commey (featherweight), Abraham Mensah (bantamweight) and Yaw Addo  (flyweight).

The team will be handled by Coach Ofori Asare. He will be supported by Lartekwei Lartey and Ebenezer Quaye aka ‘Akpenator’.

Many followers of Ghana Sports believe boxing is always the sport that can win a medal for the nation. The Commonwealth Games start from July 28 to August 8, 2022.

Ghana won a bronze medal at the last Commonwealth Games in 2018 in Gold Coast, Australia.

Meanwhile, Yours Truly is calling on fans of Theo Allotey to remain calm as there are other opportunities that may come his way, like the African Games in 2023 and Olympic Games in 2024
