With an average speed of 35.6km/hr in a heated distance of 152km, River Park ‘s BA CC roller Anthony Boakye Dankwa Boafo sprang to an astonishing victory ahead of fellow compatriots Alexander Allotey of TBT Cycling club and Joseph Nii Quaye of Sky Team to the second and third spots respectively at the just ended National Cycling Championships held at the Ablekuma enclave.
The Sunyani based wheeler registered his inclusion on the Birmingham log sheet with a good time of 4:15:56 to shadow Alexander Allotey of TBT Cycling club who made a close shave time of 4:36:56 leaving behind a tail end Nii Quaye of Sky Team Club with a time of 4:40:14.
The Under 23 category again saw Alexander Allotey of TBT Cycling club placing first with a time of 4:36:24 with Joseph Nii Quaye of Sky Team Club coming second in a time of 4:40:14. Mohammed Ramsey of River Park Ashanti CC registered his name in third place with a time of 4:40:15, all in 152km.
The 104km assignment for the Juniors enveloped 32km/hr with Philip Ayensu Boafo of TBT Cycling club clearing the lines in 3:17:01; Elias sheriff of sky Team Club finishing second I. 3:20:36 with Prince Quaye of TBT Cycling club placing third with a time of 3:25:54.
It was a head to head struggle in the Elite category with a master dominance from the Sunyani based experienced rider, Anthony Boakye Boafo Dankwa who has far proved his mettle as an integral part of the Birmingham assignment. Sources indicate that he overlapped a couple of riders in absolute fashion before finally gracing the finish line.
Allotey on the other hand has come of age with grit and determination. He is certainly proving fearlessness amongst his seniors and no wonder he played second fiddle to Anthony Boakye.
It was no surprise that he emerged victorious in the under 23 category, eclipsing Nii Quaye to the second spot.
Mohammed Ramsey sounds new on the block but his placement on the third position in the under 23 category has something to talk about in future.
Club TBT look lively on this day as their riders are quickly writing a good script of late. Philip Ayensu Boafo’s dominance in the Juniors says it all.
This year’s National Cycling Championships has been resplendent and has improved the threshold power and readiness in the cyclists ahead of their major international outings.
Next on the agenda will showcase the upcoming 5 days Tour Du Ghana of 640km gripping five regions in Ghana with incredible prizes at stake.
The Ghana Cycling Federation is billed to represent the country in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in the UK next month and these road exercises are worthy of description and commendation ahead of the Games.
