GHANA KICKBOXING SET TO RELIVE ITS PAST GLORY

F E A T U R E S T O R Y

With the sudden business of majority of the least finance sports, other ones, who have hitherto plunged into unexplained hibernation is set to regain its printable achievements in the past.

One of such disciplines is the Ghana Kickboxing Federation.

Kickboxing is one of the most prestigious disciplines in the world and is still commanding public attention in Europe,Asia and parts of Africa.

Ghana’s kickboxing revival started on the ideas of the late Colonel Sharp, who did his best to get the sport the needed recognition in Ghana.

Ghana hasn’t been seen in the organization of local competitions for a while due to financial constraints.

With the influx of the new administration headed by Raja Owusu Ansah, the fortunes of the once revered Federation is beginning to blossom.

I know a few stalwarts in the Federation currently whose sagacity and knowledge in the art will certainly propel the Federation to its targeted objectives.

The likes of Shihan George Slater Commodore, the Technical Director of the outfit needs no introduction. Indisputably a brain and specialist in martial arts, security and self defense Ghana cannot afford to buy.

Just last week,on the 11th of June, there was a major kickboxing demonstration in the ivory Coast. Infact it was the launch of the WAKO Pro/ West Africa Zone 2 – CAKBZON2 Championship.A sort of Gala which constitutes the apotheosis of sports festivities.

The second edition comes off at the same venue on July 9, Eric Favre Gym Centre in zone 3.

The competition will see Athletes competing for ten Gold Belts on K1, English Boxing and Muay Thai and MMA.

Ghana is preparing fervently to participate in that event and this is the revival journey for kickboxing in Ghana with Shihan George Slater Commodore in charge of technical directions.

It is envisaged the new administration under able President Raja, will see new reforms, seminars and training for coaches, Athletes etc.

What is even more refreshing on my latest eavesdrop has it that kickboxing has been universally accepted as an Olympic sport. Good news.

I will be sniffing around to get our wonderful readers here the very latest in the Ghanaian set up in kickboxing.
