A section of the national senior taekwondo team returned from Austria yesterday after participating in the 2022 Austrian Open Taekwondo Championships on the 28th and 29th of May 2022.
Selasi Damalie, Joshua Nii Aryettey, Eunice Omolara Adedapo and Henrietta Armah were led by Coach Augustus Agbozo.
Unfortunately, they could all not make it to the medal zone.
The coach cited a number of reasons including injuries, acclimatization and pairing with tough opponents at the preliminary stages as the reasons for not grabbing any medals.
He however insisted that it was a learning curve for the team and explained as an example that Henrietta Armah lost her second fight to the gold medalist of her division, an Egyptian, she is likely to compete with in the 2022 African Taekwondo Championships in Rwanda and the 2023 African Games.
Knowing how leading athletes in a division compete is critical knowledge for both coaches and their athletes.
Immediately after the Austrian championships, the team proceeded to Italy for a week tactical training with Coach Charles Cromwell who also played host to the team.
Their training continues in Ghana as the team sets its focus on the Rwanda championships in July.
These are all preparations geared towards the 2023 African Games in Ghana.
