The first ever Accra Inter-City Marathon will hit the city this year, as part of activities marking the annual Homowo Festival.
The marathon is also in honour of The Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
The 21-Kilomter race “Half Marathon” fixed for Saturday, July 30, from Papaye (Spintex Road) to Mantse Agbona, James Town, is part of the activities endorsed by the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) for this year’s Homowo celebration.
The event also known as the “Homowo Marathon” is an initiative of Medivents Consult – one of the leading marathon organisers in Ghana, endorsed by the GTC and the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA).
According to a statement from the organisers, the event is expected to attract athletes from all over the country including athletes from the security services.
It said, the event would also attract race lovers, athletic clubs, physical trainers, keep fit clubs.
The statement said, a date for the formal launch of the marathon and registration dates would be announced later in the year.
The Accra Inter-City Marathon “Homowo Marathon” would be the first of its kind in the capital tailored towards the celebration of the annual Homowo festival.
