The Team Ghana Swimmers excelled by winning 5 gold , 10 silver and 14 bronze medals at the 8th Cana Zone 2 Swimming and Open Water in Dakar,
Ace swimmers Zaira and Kaya Forson from Spain and Unilez Takyi from Italy joined their colleagues from their various bases to make the team stronger.
Abeiku Gyekye Jackson powered the guys up with individual gold medals in the 50m,100m butterfly,200 individual medley and team competitions, while Nubia Adjei and the ladies produced excellent swimming technique to win the 4 x100m team competition gold medal but in all Ghana had 6 gold ,11 silver and 15 bronze.
Unilez Takyi was adjudged the third best swimmer of the competition and this is the second time she has won that individual title after her classic exploits at the 7th Cana Zone 2 Swimming and Open Water Championship that was held here in Ghana in 2020. Unilez Takyi also dropped her time to set a new national record of 27.34s in the 50m freestyle.
Team Ghana will be going to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the World Fina Swimming Championship in Budapest, Hungary with high hopes after these wonderful exploits from the young gallant swimmer
The 8th Cana Zone 2 Swimming and Open Water Championship in Dakar, Senegal took place from the 27th – 29th May, 2022.
Team Ghana was led by the president of the Association,Madam Delphina Quaye,Madam Farida Idriss and Mr. Seth Nti and accompanied by Coach Isaac Gyamfi from Kumasi Sharks as the national team coach.
