The Willie Williams Foundation has hailed Solomon Kweku Hammond for qualifying to the U20 World Athletics Championship in the United States.
Mr. James Thompson, organiser of the Willie Williams Championship said they should be given more push and support through sponsorship to produce more athletes.
He thanked coaches Stephen and Elorm for working hard on Solomon Kweku Hammond who is a student of University of Ghana, Legon to reach his present level.
The young talent was discovered during the 2019 edition of the Willie Williams Championship, where he run for Future Professionals whose bankroller is Coach Stephen and he won the 100 and 200m, Coach Elorm saw the potential and approached him and enrolled him at the University of Ghana, Legon.
According to Mr. Thompson, national 100 metres record holder Azamati Benjamin’s first big competition was the Willie Williams Championship, where he won the 2018 of the edition was published in the news as well as social media.
“Solomon Kweku Hammond is now the fastest athlete in the whole ECOWAS and Ghana. We proud of Willie Williams Championship, we thank Coach Stephen,Coach Elorm and the University of Ghana’s Coaches” said Mr. Thompson
He called on sports authorities to take athletes and Athletics Competitions very serious, such as the Willie Williams Championship, Sakora Championship, PAAG Home-coming Competition and others..
He said the government must construct more athletic tracks around the country’s many astro turfs to attract and involve young people who are interested in athletics.
