Founder of the Schools Sanitation Programme, Mr. Emmanuel Olla Williams has called on health, safety, sanitation, roads and environmental authorities in Ghana to work hard to solve the problems of flooding in Accra.
Speaking to Yours Truly on the issue of the persistent flooding in the capital, the CEO of Dreamland Sports Plus and One – On – One Foundation could not understand why the problem keeps escalating, and why it is always becoming a bigger issue in the Metropolis year after year.
He said in the past whenever it rains, kids and young people play in the rain, but now it has become dangerous and unsafe, because the rain water can sweep you away.
According to the concerned citizen who has taken upon himself the duty and task to educate students on safety and sanitation over the past years, he is very sad that people suffer whenever it rains.
Mr. Olla Williams who is a master sports and entertainment events manager as well as Youth Coordinator of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) asserted that it not good that as the world is developing, Ghana is moving backwards in terms of health and safety.
He expressed that people have lost hope in NADMO, because they cannot solve the problems whenever it rains.
He called on the government and the ministries whose duty is it to solve problems whenever it rains to try their best to save the situation. He expressed that people must be wise enough, not to put refuse and rubbish into the drains.
He said “We are in May, and the rainy season has just started and we should expect more rains in June and July. I want to plead with the government to do something because in the past we used to play in the rain, but now when it rains, we are afraid to come out and in danger”.
After organizing the successful Aboakyer Festival Sports Programme, he and his team are planning for the Ada Asafotu and Ga Homowo Fesrivals.
He revealed that the new season of the Schools Sanitation will also be launched soon, and thanked all the sponsors for their support.
Olla Williams urged Team Ghana preparing for the up coming 2022 Commonwealth Games to try and bring home gold medals.
