I will end George Ashie’s career – Robert Quaye

Robert ‘Stopper’ Quaye is very confident that he possesses the power and the skill to end George ‘Red Tiger’ Ashie’s career when they face off at the Bukom Boxing Arena on March 6, 2022, for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Africa championship fight.

Quaye, boasting a record of 20 wins, 17 of which were knockouts, sees this Independence Day showdown as an opportunity to establish himself as the premier super lightweight in the country.

The duo from Bukom have engaged in a war of words in anticipation of their highly anticipated IBF Africa championship bout, aptly named ‘Rumble to Freedom.’ While Quaye is confident in concluding the fight within seven rounds, Ashie, with a record of 32 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw, and 24 knockouts, aims for victory under any circumstances.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Quaye acknowledged the challenge he expects from the experienced Ashie when they collide on March 6.

“I can promise you that this will be the end of his career because I am going to destroy him in the ring. He doesn’t have the strength to match me in the ring because he is old. I am looking forward to the fight and I believe it is going to be a tough one,” he said.

Despite a controversial majority decision loss to Emmanuel Tagoe in 2012 that halted his progress, 37-year-old Ashie remains highly regarded locally after 19 years in the professional ranks. Determined to make an impact in the sport, Ashie believes a resounding victory over Quaye is crucial for his career.

“This fight is crucial for my career because I need to win, and I don’t think he has what it takes to beat me. The ring will decide but I know I will come out victorious at the end of the fight,” Ashie stated.

When asked what fans should expect, Gershon Adzai, Quaye’s trainer said through his translator, Frederick Ankomah that it was going to be a tough night for both boxers. However, he is confident that Quaye will stick to the game plan and overpower the aging Ashie to take the title.

“Ashie is a very good boxer. But he is no longer the Red Tiger he was. He’s reached his peak and is now on a decline. It is not going to be an easy fight for Quaye because Ashie has fought at a higher level. But I know Stopper will stick to his training and bring the title home,” he said.
