GHANA JIU JITSU FEDERATION ORGANIZES GREATER ACCRA OPEN COMBAT CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The Ghana Jiu Jitsu Federation organized a tournament at the Accra Sports Stadium dubbed ” The Greater Accra Open Combat Championships.

The tournament which also served as a mode of qualification for the upcoming African Championships to be hosted in Accra, was open to all martial arts practitioners across the country.

There was a massive turn out of athletes nationwide, notable among them was the Gold Coast Combat Academy from Cape Coast with their trainer Daniel Earll who is also the National Jiu Jitsu team coach.

Close to a hundred fighters competed in Full Contact and Close Contact Jiu Jitsu in the Girls, Boys and Seniors categories. Fiercely contested matchups began right from 9am on Saturday May, 29 till around 9pm, with members of the Ghana Boxing Supporters’ Union on hand to cheer on the combatants through singing and dancing.

In the end, Abdul Malik Adjei, Jerry Quansah and Samuel Amartey came 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in the 65kg Full Contact category.

Isaac Commey, Theophilus Laryea and Frank Tekpor also emerged 1st,2nd, and 3rd in the 75kg Full Contact.

And the Boys category had some incredible display of skills, with Alhassan Ntiaku, Blessing Quainoo and Elisha Kumordzi emerging winners in that order.

In the Girls Category, an amazingly delectable show by Mercy Akorli saw her emerge on top of the pile, with Jessica Okine and Annelore Adusu following suit.

Jerry Quansah, Simon Okine and Enoch Abbey emerged winners in the 65kg Close Contact category whiles Emmanuel Lamptey, Lambert Fiazuku and Martin Opitz held sway in the 80 kg Close Contact category.

Vastly experienced Jonathan Bafawuse Euro had a field day in the 90 kg Close Contact category with Dallas Awenyere and Michael Markwei coming second and third respectively.

Enterprising Isaac Commey climbed the podium one more time to receive the prize for best performer in the 75kg Close Contact category with Michael Acheampong and Godfred Quartey placing second and third. The well attended event which was sponsored by Electroland Ghana Limited and BJ Wise Electronics was climaxed by the sealing of a contract with American Army veteran Daniel Earll on his appointment as the National Jiu Jitsu Team Head Coach.

All winners were presented with electrical appliances like Blenders, Fans, Pop Corn machines etc. donated by Electroland Ghana Limited.

President of the Federation Maxwell Borquaye was happy with the success of the event whiles Vice President Evans Bernie Johnson called for more support and thanked Electroland Ghana Limited for their unalloyed assistance.

Director of Operations for the Federation, Gordon Frimpong assured that steps were being streamlined for the team’s participation in international competitions.

Daniel Earll on his part expressed optimism that going forward, the team would do exploits.
