Fight Night 3 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League came off at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday April 8. Patrons defied the showers that precipitated in certain parts of the capital shortly before the event commenced. Boxing fans thronged the venue in droves to revel in pugilistic purity amid musical displays: the fun was unending.
In the first bout of the night Sea View Gym’s David Tagoe AKA ” Hot Fire boxed past Isaac ” Iron Boy ” Aryeetey of the Black Panthers Gym in a Super Flyweight contest. Tagoe whose two previous fights had ended in losses, landed flurries and boxed beautifully on the back foot ; taming a charging Aryeetey over six rounds en route to a split decision victory. Habib Kehinde Giwa from Nima defeated Daniel Kotey unanimously in their six round Welterweight duel. Kehinde scored two knockdowns but failed to finish off his opponent.
The Ghana Armed Forces made it three wins in as many nights when Lance Corporal Yikah John beat Erasmus Anum in a hotly contested Cruiserweight battle.
In the Middleweight division, Moses Kwaku of the Seconds Out Gym knocked out Sampson Jarah of the Wisdom Gym. Jarah entered the ring clad in royal regalia and put up a spirited effort but ultimately failed to reign in the ring.
Reigning best boxer and Imax Promotions signee, Charles Tetteh of the Panic Gym pummeled Nathaniel Nukpe until the latter refused to answer the bell for the fourth round of their Super Featherweight fray. Tetteh, accompanied by Trainer Emmanuel Annor AKA Coach Yii, was in his usual boisterous best.
” Poncho Power” Faisal Abubakar of the Charles Quartey Gym closed the show with a vintage win over Calabar based Bartholomew Uche from Nigeria in an international Super lightweight encounter. Faisal arguably commands the largest support base presently. Bronx and Akotoku Gyms got walk overs respectively.
