With just a couple of days to the upcoming Africa Road Cycling Championships next month, 39 top Ghanaian riders have been invited by the Ghana Cycling Federation, Technical Department, to justify their inclusion in the final selection of the qualified riders who will hoist the flag of Ghana from the 8th -17th February,2023 inside Ablekuma Ollebu.
Amongst some of the top riders called up for this exercise are; SWAG awardee Anthony Boakye Dankwa Boafo, Victor Akpabli Cudjoe, Frank Awuku Akuffo, Lawrence Adjei, Isaac Sackey and Solomon Tagoe making up the top echelon of the Elite category.
The junior cyclists involves limelight sensation, Joseph Nii Quaye of Team Sky, Mohammed Ramsey of River Park Ashanti, the other elite and under 23 involves Peter Osei of River Park BA, Ebenezer Frank Quaye of All Stars Prince Hackman, Alexander Allotey of TBT, Prosper Agbo of City Migro, Micheal Nabaa of team FCG, amongst others.
The female category excites as usual with experienced Erica Sedzro in the pack, pulling debutants in the likes of Rafatu Inusah, Jennifer Pappoe, Barikisu Mumuni amongst others.
The Youth team, which is the future eye of Ghana cycling involves, Abdul Sadat, Mensah Pious, Farrakhan Shaaban Mohammed, Ayeke Tetteh Abkaail all of River Park Great Accra.
In a communique cited by the Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation Daniel Amoo, the selection of the final riders will be highly competitive taking into consideration the current form guide of the riders.
The selection of Ghana’s final squad will be based on previous performance, ability to win a medal, current form guide, discipline, ability to demonstrate a positive impact on the overall team and the capability to advance advance to the level of medal capability.
The Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation Daniel Amoo hinted that ” if any club feels it has a Cyclist who has the capability of performing at the Championship, such a Cyclist is welcome to join in the justifiers”.
The “cream de la cream” of riders from the African continent will be pulling up the plugs in the Road Race and Time Trials from the 8 -17th February 2023 encompassing over 20 countries in readiness.
This is the first Ghana would be hosting such a high profile event which is a qualification towards the 2024 Paris Olympics Games.
Confederation of African Cycling -CAC officials are expected to be in the country soon to see to the smooth facilitation of the event.
